Going back to the 50's Mexico lived in a closed economy, ie the import of commodities from abroad meant to apply high tariffs on such goods. Perhaps he had a certain logic to the policy established by the Government of the time given to the urgent need to develop the production of inputs in our country. For this reason we dedicate ourselves to consume what they produce and sell our country overseas raw materials. However, this policy lasted too long and this allowed those products with no greater incentive than the domestic consumer, the back of poor quality and low demand abroad. Hence, for a long time our development was financed with the sale of raw materials abroad.
If we go back to the time when Mexico began to handle the concept of quality, when our economy was opened to foreign markets. We are already talking about the time of the 70's when it was important to start developing in the country with higher value added processed products is greater integration in raw material costs and at the same time could be sold abroad.
For this to happen, Mexico had to open its trade borders.
Thus were born the first free trade with Latin America "Latin American Association of Free Trade" (LAFTA) and then the "Free Trade Agreement with Canada and the United States" (TLC) in 1990. These treaties have been opening up to other countries such as Chile, countries in Central America and some European countries etc.
To create wealth and jobs through exports, we have seen the need to make our products competitive globally.
only Our products and services are well received abroad as long as competitive in cost, quality and service.
The formation of economic blocs has brought us great opportunities to export our products. Is why in Mexico and there are significant moves towards a culture of quality since the early 1990's.
Mexican companies have been forced to enter the culture of quality that no doubt required a paradigm shift and a strong commitment to departe of our business both in the large, medium and small enterprises.
There is much to do yet, because the developed countries lead to good advantage in terms of understanding current and future needs of their clients but the successful future of this country is to continue raising the quality culture in Most Mexican companies and this will depend on the huge for all and a large sum of efforts of the Government, Employers and Employees. Sincerely
José Luis Elvira
